When the Tech Giants Take the Cake – Let’s Share It More Fairly

Spotify and Apple Music earn billions from music. But only a fraction reaches the musicians themselves. For most, streaming revenues turn into loose change, while the platforms take the cake.

It’s not because music lacks value. Quite the opposite. But the streaming model is designed so that most of the value stays with the platforms, not with those who actually create the content.

We can’t change the model alone

It’s naïve to think one actor can change the entire streaming system. Spotify and Apple have set the rules, and they won’t shift overnight. So the question is: What can we do instead?

New paths to income

The answer is to create new opportunities for income. Paths where the value stays closer to the musicians. It’s not just about more streams, but about relationships, communities, and direct connections between musicians, bands, venues, and fans.

Beatnickel’s approach

Beatnickel is building a network where musicians can find each other, start bands, organize their music lives – and much more to come. Our future roadmap includes booking, events, and new ways to connect musicians and audiences.
The goal is simple: Move the value closer to those who make the music. Because we can’t let the tech giants take the entire cake. It’s time to share it more fairly.
